Default WebSite Practice?

I was wondering what I could do to practice for making sites and coming up with ideas. I know you're think: "Hey, you work at a web designing company. Why don't you get practice from there?"

Well, I haven't started yet. I know XML, CSS, and a little JavaScript, but it's kind of hard to put them all together and make a nice looking website. I've started to make a blog -- that I'm going to constantly edit to look better, but I just need a little bit more help.

For design, I just do lots of tutorials for Photoshop, and I've got a little more creative on that.

Do you mean XHTML, or do you actually mean XML?
If you only know XML, you should consider learning XHTML.

You could start out making a personal website, with some information about you, and maybe some other useful stuff. Usually personal website aren't popular, because people don't cares about them, but when you only needs some practice, I think it will be a good start.

My bad, I meant XHTML. And yeah, that's what I'm doing first: making a personal website. But, I mean after that, because there's only so far that I can go. I was thinking about making a website that offers a lot of photoshop stuff and myspace layouts like argamydesign.com. It'll take me some time because I'm not as experienced, but it'll really help out my skills.

What about making templates for something such as OSWD. Experience, exposure and education all in one.

That OSWD option sounds good. The name sounds familiar, but I can't put my finger on what exactly it is. I'll just look on Google.

I just checked out the OSWD site. It looks like a really good idea since I saw that the templates didn't have actual information on it. That was one of the things I was worried about, that I'd have to put an actual businesses logo and information on it. The blog site is a good idea too since I'd be able to personalize it. Thanks.
