I really need to create some kind of website on a linux server that is similar to sharepoint. It doesn't have to actually be sharepoint, but I need something similar. Any ideas?

Think I came up with a solution- Apache
going to install it on my PC, and host the alfresco on there

That seems like the only Linux alternative to Sharepoint on Linux. I'd love to hear how it turns out. Sharepoint at our work is incredibly slow and often down.
I hope to get it up and running this weekend, I'll be sure to let you know how well it works. Great learning experience I think. If it works..... screw web hosting, just going to start hosting my websites on my PC. Of course, only one problem.. kids. I lock my computer, walk away.. they come up and see the nice red button in the corner (restart/shutdown) and press it.... I think I need a KVM switch so I can just turn off the mouse and keyboard altogether.... Do they make keyboards with power switches? lol.

Good luck getting it working, that is a huge undertaking.
And the final verdict is:
Dell Rounding Team Sharepoint
BAM
Alfresco apparently has a built in Apache server, which i started, then used NO-IP to create an easy DNS (jwmangum.hopto.org), which was actually a redirect to my IP:8080/alfresco
+rep to debtboy, you're awesome.
