Wedding Ring Configurator

I am look for a technology to use for a project wedding ring configurator. Person can customize the ring according to their requirement; they can change metal from gold, silver or platinum. They add stone, gems or diamond to it, all the activity should be displayed at the real-time with 3D view.
Can anyone tell me which technology to use and explain the process for the same?

As WingedPanther has said above move basically work with what you know but i remember stumbling across a 3d program which could be some use i can't remember the name so ill apologise in advance as its not much help but ill get searching around for you and ill post it up (even if you get an answer and decide to use something else) because i believe it can help you quite a bit right off to search
