This is sort of weird to ask because I don't have a full plan yet
But all of you are great members and people, and many have experiences with going through high school to college, college to work, work and family now...
I just want to see what is in everyone's mind
My Alumni Web & Program is basically, at its very beginning, focusing on my high school and City University of New York
I don't have contact with CUNY yet, but I can be happy to work with my high school
I am a very reputation student in school and they would like my idea to have an alumni web and program set up
What i really is into is the web and program itself
I want to code my own system instead of using cms like drupal or even joomla (drupal will always be my first choice)
I need ideas from you guys to see what I can do on the web, provide what kind of alumni helping service...
Any idea will be helpful... just tell me what do you think, what would you do if you are given an assignment like this

Well first off, you should explain to us what Alumni Web & Program is and what it does in more details.
But good luck on that man!
Before you decide not to use a CMS/Drupal/other, start by figuring out what you want to do. I'm working on a fanfiction site for my wife, and before I made any other decisions, I started by determining what the basic functionality and layouts should be. Once that was done, I was able to code a few basics so I could start testing. Then I could create the initial database that would be used.
I'm doing all of this while learning PHP and how it works with MySQL. I regularly have to look things up since I know something is possible, but not how to implement it.
It sounds like you have a VERY general and vague idea of what you want. Based on that, you have no realistic way to know if Drupal would be helpful or not. The same is true of jQuery, Blueprint CSS, Mootools, etc.
I would recommend that you start by looking at other sites that are similar to what you want and getting ideas from them. Also, be aware that some schools use sites like FaceBook as their "Alumni" site.
