I just wanted to know if someone here knows about "Rich Internet applications" . I am using adobe flex but I am just a beginner .
To me, "Rich Internet applications" is one of those buzz-phrases that doesn't really mean anything, kind of like "Web 2.0".
I agree, it is a buzz word. What exactly is "Web 2.0" anyway and where is 1.0? Can I downgrade?
I believe a Rich Internet Application is an application on the web. For example, Google Mail (gmail) and Google maps. It is an application that does something without the need for reloading. Here are some examples using Ext JS:
Ext 2.0 Desktop Sample App
Ext JS - Blog

I think both buzzwords refer to the use of JavaScript/AJAX/Server-side scripting to emulate the types of activities that are traditionally done with Desktop applications. That said, it's really about using a combination of technologies that have been around for a while, but are being explored more deeply now.
I had a bit different impression of "Web 2.0" as being an interactive website. For instance, our menu at the top make this a "Web 2.0" site. While using the same technology I distinguished web applications as desktop like applications on the web.
Web 2.0 is just an impression of the future, where the web user is concerned; I highly doubt it's meant literally.
It's just a group name for advanced technologies which will all be part of the web in years to come.
Besides that, back on topic, I'm in agreement with, Jordan. An application which need not load, and also, the application which have "features and functionality of traditional desktop applications". Such as, a web HTML editor, or cPanel.
