Re: Rich Internet application
To me, "Rich Internet applications" is one of those buzz-phrases that doesn't really mean anything, kind of like "Web 2.0".

Re: Rich Internet application
I agree, it is a buzz word. What exactly is "Web 2.0" anyway and where is 1.0? Can I downgrade?
I believe a Rich Internet Application is an application on the web. For example, Google Mail (gmail) and Google maps. It is an application that does something without the need for reloading. Here are some examples using Ext JS: Ext 2.0 Desktop Sample App Ext JS - Blog

Re: Rich Internet application
I think both buzzwords refer to the use of JavaScript/AJAX/Server-side scripting to emulate the types of activities that are traditionally done with Desktop applications. That said, it's really about using a combination of technologies that have been around for a while, but are being explored more deeply now.

Re: Rich Internet application
I had a bit different impression of "Web 2.0" as being an interactive website. For instance, our menu at the top make this a "Web 2.0" site. While using the same technology I distinguished web applications as desktop like applications on the web.
