Question Joomla Backup AND restore

Hey everyone... looks like CC has gotten pretty popular!

I have a joomla site (which is down right now, so I'd rather not share the url )

My problem started by wanting to be sure that I could restore the backup i had made using the plesk admin tool. i did a backup of the domain and it looked like it got everything by the size of the file. however, when i did a restore it hosed me to the point that i dont know what to do now.

has anyone had any success in backing up AND restoring a joomla site easily? And could they explain the process to me?

Thanks for the help!

Doesn't joomla have a built-in backup addon?

Hey Chan,

actually, I dont see one that is built in. However I added 2 different free backup components and did backups, but they do not provide any RESTORE capability. Which left me at the point of "well I have a backup, but I have no idea how to restore it if i need a restore for whatever reason".

u know of any good backup joomla components that allow a restore gui?

falco85,

I backed the site up and then restored using the plesk tool you referenced... i even read that same pdf you linked to. unfortunately thats what messed broke my site.

my buddy (the admin of this site... hehe... i have connections i guess ) figured out what the problem was.
Plesk did not restore the permissions in my DB correctly. So, we're waiting to hear back from support on why it didnt work the way it should have.

If anyone has any great backup and restore solutions for joomla please post it cause I'm sure it will help someone if not me.

Thanks!

Nice avatar John! I like that.

It seems that plesk has a problem with MySQL and permissions. Not sure what the fix/work-around is that is why Plesk messed up your website.

I found several backup scripts for Joomla:

http://extensions.joomla.org/compone...758/Itemid,35/

The first one looks good - "Backup and Restore" - I don't use joomla so I can't verify these for you but you may want to check it out!
