Final Fantasy III

Has anyone heard of Final Fantasy.. I or II.. In reading EGM ..Electronic Gaming Monthly .. there was an annoucement that Final Fantasy III is coming out and suppose to be last of the series..

So what was Fantasy I and II about..? The review states this new one picks off where the other two left off.

Wait, Final Fantasy III is the last? I thought that Final Fantasy XII or XI like came out, so wouldn't the last be XIII? And yeah, why isn't there a I or II, or a IV or V? I never heard about those. YOU CAN'T JUST SKIP NUMBERS (unless you're George Lucas, e.g. Star Wars, e.g. starts out Ep. 4).
