For web development you can learn the following and you'll be good:

  • HTML / CSS (though they aren't web development languages, they are mark-up languages)
  • JavaScript (including the jQuery library)
  • PHP (with MySQL databases)

I'm Orthodox by birth, but I don't believe in my religion, still I do believe that there is a God.

Atheist are welcome

No one is really an atheist, everyone believes in something, in love, hate, himself / herself etc :).

#661718 Helping my young son learn to programme

About the programming language that he can start learning, you have to make decision first. You want to learn software development or website development. If you want to learn website development you can start learning the following (in this order):

  • HTML and CSS (this is a markup language)
  • JavaScript (with jQuery after that)
  • PHP

For software development there is

  • C / C++
  • C#
  • Java
  • Python

These one's are the most wanted right know (as I know). The first three of them are almost the same, there are only library differences at most, so if you learn one of them you will already know parts of the others too.

For learning sources you can use the one thet lespauled suggested CodeAcademy, W3Schools (for web development) and Lynda.com (paid) which offers a large variety of video tutorials about programming languages.
