Using HTML and PHP creating a drop down menu

07 August 2012 - 07:12 AM

Since coming here to the site I've learned a lot about html, well a lot more than I did a month ago. But to my issue I was wondering if it was possible to create a drop down menu in html and in php simply display a table based on what's highlighted? If I'm not mistaken, I can't because php is server side and it must first have the information sent to it for processing before it can do anything. I hear javascript solves my problem just fine except there are two issues. One being my old professor, person who asked me to make the web page, only wants me to use php and html. Javascript is supposed to have a lot of security holes in it according to him and me never having used the language can't raise a proper argument. And two, like i said earlier, I have never used javascript. I would like to create the table dynamically based on the selected drop items but using only php and html it proves to be very complicated.

Creating Dynamic Tables In Html Using Php

13 July 2012 - 01:23 PM

This is page.html
<html><body>
<table border ="1">
<?php
include 'Display.class.php';

$obj = new Display();
$obj -> display(3,3);
?>
</table>
</body></html>

this is Display.class.php
<?php
class Display
{
  public function display($rows, $cols)
  {
   for($c = 0; $c < $cols; $c++)
   {
    echo '<td>';
    for($r = 0; $r < $rows; $r++)
    {
	 echo '<tr> blank </tr>';
    } //ends rows loop
    echo '</td>';
   } //ends columns loop
  } //ends function display
} //ends class Display
?>

When I run the html file in chrome from the /var/www/html folder and from a regular folder off the server the html code printed in php isn't converted to html. Am I missing something?

Help With Layout In Html

27 June 2012 - 07:24 PM

Hi guys, working on a web page for my school and I need some help with the formatting of the page. Essentially this is what needs to be done, I have 3 boxes

box1 box2 box3

inside those boxes contain information related to course information. The part of inputting the content will not be a problem however the layout is for me. I borrowed from the borderlayout in java where I can have a left, center, & right component and I can just edit from there. Is there a way I can make this happen or do I have to make a table to get it done?
