well to say the least this thread points out a lot of good insight into modern security in password cracking regards, certainly has me stepping it up on my end just to be safe all good points taken thanks

Pally, unfortunately, that becomes very easy for hackers to create a list of phrases/authors/characters and we're back at the same problem.

I think its safe.. or at very least safer.. consider I used 7 words.. most passwords consist of about that many characters and there are only 26 characters compared to how many words?

 

also consider I over simplified.. presumably you would use your own idea like an inside joke you have with a close friend or something and a simple random thing you remember like 1%f to mix in there etc to give it a little hickup..

 

ideally you would do "iwef[89sef89aw3yway89y784873*)r789GVF&G#F&#FG8f7gwefihr3298988yheigonw30r9129urw9g8hneoi"

but good luck remembering that

I was taught in my computer security class the safest passwords are quote phrases with the person who said it and 1 or 2 unique characters

 

something like

 

"1ihaveadreamMartinLutherKing%"

 

the theory goes that user encouraged to use this format will create significantly longer,stronger passwords with minimal effort to remember them
