I was wondering, outside of java, what type of stuff do i need to learn to eventually get a job someday using java?

For example: Mysql, nosql, swing, spring framework, etc

To name a few...

  • Data structures (knowing which data structure and when to use it will take you far in interviews)
  • Algorithms (similar to datastructures)
  • Learn to sit down, solve programming challenges, and follow-through until the problem is solved (don't give up, programming is tough sometimes)
  • Learn to communicate
  • Learn to communicate your problem clearly
  • Understand the fundamentals about OOP and their importance (using Java obviously would be easiest)
  • Understand fundamental programming concepts and their importance (variables, methods, loops, addressing, etc.)
  • Put your programs/code/scripts on Github. It looks like a portfolio and if recruiters want, they can look at it and see you that you code (though technically you could upload other people's code, but how does that help you?).
  • Write as many programs as you can and solve as many problems as you can using programming.
  • Realize that this stuff takes time to digest, learn, and understand.
  • Have fun.

Good luck.
