Okay codecall so at the moment I have a Lenovo Y470.

Here are the specifications :

Current OS: Ubuntu 13.04

CPU: 3rd Gen i7

RAM: 8 GB

GPU: intel® Sandybridge Mobile x86/MMX/SSE2 and Nvidia Geforce 550M ( optimus, but only the intel works , I've tried bumblebee )

HDD: 500 GB

And I want to invest into another laptop and use that one for my entertainment use ( gaming, netflix, etc) and use this laptop for my technical computer use ( programming, experimentation ). I'm going to be selling my xbox and I've recently started working so I should be able to afford a computer on a $1000 or less budget within 5-6 weeks. But I want to get the best deal possible on my laptop. I would prefer it to contain a windows 7 OS, with a 4th gen i7, and a nice GPU ( better than my current ) , ram can still be 8gb or 6. So any suggestions ? I was thinking about a newer lenovo Y410P

If you're interested in gaming I recommend you build a desktop instead of getting a laptop.

If you're keeping the current laptop then I'd also recommend a desktop for your entertainment machine. You can get far more power for the price, and it will be easier to upgrade if you decide you want to.

+1 for getting a desktop, laptops with dedicated GPU's cost a bomb and are like 50% less powerful than desktop ones. If you insist in getting one though I recommend a Lenovo Y500 or something similar.

I would recommend you to go for "Lenovo IdeaPad Y510p" which is probably the best Multimedia Laptop available at the moment.

Yeah, I also agree with building a custom desktop as you would not get a "gaming satisfaction" mood with a laptop.

but if you insist then I have an Acer and they are O.K or in fact good for the price that you pay but not a big deal so I would not really recommend it.

Good luck.

You can choose anyone from the following ones. Each one of this would be an excellent choice for you.

1. Samsung ATIV Book 8 Touch 880Z5E X01

2. Dell Inspiron 15-7537

3. Asus N550JV-CN201H
