Hi everyone,

If you tried to login over the past couple of days you may have been greeted with an "Account Suspended" message.

There's been a bit of confusion over this, so I'd like to reassure everyone that this referred to the forum's hosting account and not your individual user account.

In short, our host disabled the site because we were being awesome and getting lots of visitors. Between the traffic and one of the mod installed on the board, the load on the server was higher than the host allows, so they suspended the site. We're back up, with the same host, for now, but will likely investigate alternatives since it's not ideal for anyone for the site to be pulled offline without warning.

I hope that clears up the confusion for everyone, but if you do have any other questions, you can post a reply here or send me a PM :)

Ben

Thanks for addressing the situation, Ben. I'm sure that those 800 guests where part of the reason ;)

Right now, it's hared hosting on a beefy server. I don't think the problem is the server per say, but related to some of the plugins I added over the last month. Prior to the plugins, the site was running smoothly.

It's good that it's back up, But it's not very good that the host just pulled it down without notification.

Well, if CodeCall gets large enough, I think it'll make more sense to just set up a server farm.

After all, that's what most big sites do, and no host can take them down because they're their own host.

Yes, definitely the hosting is being lousy to a good client.
Still, you turned off many of the improves, and yet we page went down. and in addition, the page have ran pluginful for at least two months ... i am not sure about the plugins being the exclusive cause of the problem

We often see high numbers of guests since the site comes up near the top for many programming related searches. Of course, we'd prefer it if they all registered

Personally, I think CodeCall is probably has high usage on shared hosting. Don't you think so? Have the staffs are thinking about of moving it toward VPS server?

Hey Codecallers,

Here is a quick update! I think we were able to isolate the problem to an application that was added to the software recently. I removed it last night and things seem to be running faster (and at lower load).

Now that the server is more stable, I have added back the Faces plugin (the one on the homepage that shows recent topics and your own topics). I will slowly add back some of the plugins and monitor their load contribution. For plugins that are not absolutely necessary, I will not be turning them back on.

If you have any feedback on this, please let me know.
