Here are some useful resources for Java programmers. If you know of any more that I should add (especially for the advanced section) post them and I'll keep the thread updated!

Downloads

Java 7 for Windows Desktops - You're gonna need this!
Java 7 for other installations - For Mac, Linux, etc users.
Java JDK (SDK) Downloads - Download the Java JDK (includes runtimes) if you're going to be developing in Java

New User Tutorials

IBM developerWorks - News, updates, tutorials, code snippets, etc for Java

Java Game Programming Tutorials

Making a Game in Java - Java game programming tutorial. Some of the information is outdated but applets and sourcecode is available.
Game Programming in Java - Set of tutorials containing game development code and examples.
Java Game Tutorials - How to make minesweeper, Tetris, Snake, and other games in Java. Full source code provided.

IDEs

IntelliJ IDEA - Licensing starts at $99, however there is an opensource "Community Edition" with limited features.
jEdit - Opensource multi-language IDE.
NetBeans - The best known Java IDE, presented very professionally but opensource regardless.
tIDE - Opensource with no installation required.
