Greetings to you all. I am so happy to have found this forum. I've just returned to HTML after a long absence and I'm learning HTML5 and trying to figure out how to use Notepad ++. I have only used MS Notepad for a moderate sized county government website long ago. I am excited to be back to coding. Any suggestions about new fundamentals I should be learning are welcome. If anyone knows of a comprehensive Notepad++ tutorial please pass it on.
Thanks for welcoming this Newbie. ?:~>

Hello! and welcome Spirithorse28!, I am also a newbie here at Codecall.
Since I am already typing, here is a very newbie question that one of the fellow codecallers could maybe give they're opinion on.
I have no real programming experience but I have a book called "Learn C++ today!" it's a big book so before I work through it, would it be more efficient to learn Java before C++? are both Object Oriented? (I am not sure what that even mean yet) I would like learn the most effective ground up programming language. Is C++ the one to learn? I would like to develop a wide range of applications.
Thank you
G-prime

Java and C++ are both object-oriented. One of the differences being Java is solely object-oriented where as C++ has objects support but you can program without using classes. You should go with C++ first. It will help you get a much better understanding of other languages. You can develop a wide range of applications with Java or C++, Java is easier for many types of applications but you learn more with C++ that will make you better with other languages in the future.

For ground up, learning foundational concepts, I would recommend C++. It supports a wider variety of programming paradigms than Java does. Both are perfectly good first languages, however.
