C can be a difficult first language, especially if you're self learning. It was however my first language and I ended up buying books to learn it a long time ago.
On the forums we have a lot of C tutorials ranging from beginner to advanced at C Tutorials
There's also a C/C++ resources thread in the C forums at http://forum.codecal...-resources.html which lists some decent books you can buy albeit they're all C++ books it seems.... mostly because people seem more interested in C++ these days due to it's wide use in game programming.
I personally read k&r ANSI C to teach myself C but that was a long long time ago. I'd recommend reading a few beginner tutorials and if you still can't seem to grasp it and don't want to buy a book. You could also choose a different language.
Scheme is a popular first language and has many online resources to help you learn such as SICP Welcome to the SICP Web Site
There's also some online resources involving python. Both python and scheme are taught in a number of universities as a first programming language for Computer Science students.
