Hey all im sorry that my first post here has to be an annoying new boy question but there we go.

I had been having a play with a linux live version of ubuntu for a couple of days and decided that i should migrate to it from windows from the rave reviews and ive always been curious as to what it was like. I chose to install ubuntu as it said it needed very little knowledge and was simple to use.

As i was trying to install it i came up with a few problems. The first of which being that once it was installed onto my SSD it wouldnt run properly unless i launched it from my Hard drive which i still dont understand??

The next one being that when it did launch, once it was trying to load up it showed a black screen with red sections and juttering blue and yellow lines scattered about.

After it actually loaded up the ubuntu software center just showed a blank white screen (Managed to sort this problem)

Next was the fact that i downloaded skype and the only way i can figure out how to run it is straight from the terminal.

lastly i also have no sound on either ubuntu or my windows operating system :(

Hope you can help me out with these problems and sorry for my first post being a question.

What is your graphics card? Have you asked on the ubuntu forums?
