How difficult to calculate volume from CAD data?

How difficult would it be to write a simple program to import CAD data taken from a 3D scanner (probably IGES or STEP) and calculate the volume of a part? Could an iPhone app do this?
I know it can be done in SolidWorks, but I need a quick easy way to do it. Either an iPhone app or a simple Windows application.
