I would better stay away from the hosts that oversell. Check on the disk space allocation, bandwidth, security features, traffic flow, e-mail storage capacity, and the kind of multiple domain accounts.

Stay away from the companies that allow overselling as their aim is to Earn money not to have satisfied client :s. So, if you want a reliable hosting just do google search before buying any hosting :-P

My personal policy, however, is that if it's an important site, don't be penny-wise and pound-foolish. Saving one or two dollars per month is not worth the loss of a few hundred or a few thousand dollars when your site goes down.

It's good when a company provides overselling on a reseller account.

Overselling basically means to sell beyond the means of delivery. However, that's a little bit oversimplified.

I don't trust them. I am helping a firend with his Minecraft server and it seems a lot of hosts just stuff 100s of GB of RAM onto a low powered server. They then sell "2GB plans" (where 2GB is normally enough to host 20-30 players) which can't host a single person because you only get a fraction of a GHz.
It's the same issue with "Unlimited" hosts, if they are truly unlimited then why doesn't everyone use them? Simply because they only have enough storage space for a 100 or so GB a person and have plenty of sneaky reasons to kick you off their network.

Please, write clearly with proper structure. Double spacing makes the text feel un-jointed, Capitalizing Every Word Means People Stop Before Every Word Sub-Consciously Which Is A Pain In The Backside, and use code tags! (The right most styling box).

Well, it's as always not overselling itself that is the problem, more the attitude to customers. I mean, of course you can oversell some diskspace, if you assure that your customers wont run out of it, and update when needed, I believe overselling is fine. Its those who dont care about filled disks you need to worry about... I mean, even google and microsoft ofcourse oversell their free space on the user accounts like gmail or skydrive, just making sure there is plenty of free space all the time. It is usually pretty easy to plan the upgrades on a big user base...

Overselling can be really profitable if it's used from the right company.
