Hello people!
Sometimes people can have a hard time figuring out what they could try to make, Well i thought i would make a list of tips of what applications you could create.

Home budget program
WebBrowser (Include items such as favorites, bookmarks, history list, etc)
FTP application
Text editor (Little more advanced than Notepad :P)
Image editor
Web cam image capture application
Calculator
CD Key Generator
File Explorer
Screen Capture Program
Tetris (The old game Tetris.. You probaly know it)
Pac Man
Pong
Media Player

"Google summer of code" really gives more practical, great for resume and real world projects. Almost every good open source project participates there and gives students a chance to add to it.

It is a pretty mature program going on for many years and you can find many current and past projects. I believe every serious software developer while being a student should do a project from this domain and i personally regret not having done so in my BS.
