Hello people!

I currently developing a game, The game is a 2D side-scroller. Think of it as Super-Mario Bros..

I need some help with ideas for monsters i could use in this game.

Im having level 1 in developement currently and i think of it as a dark level kinda like a grave yard with zombies and monsters like that.
Any ideas for more monsters for this level?

Also please if you have any ideas about what theme on the other levels could be please make a post telling me,
All ideas are appreciated!

You could add monsters such as a bad school teacher, that could be funny. Maybe you should built up the difficulty also trough the level with on the end of each level a bigger monster defended by smaller servants

I like the idea with the bigger monster that is protected by the smaller ones, Thanks!

How do you envision the combat system working? If the main attack is jumping on heads, having skeletons and zombies and vampires wouldn't work well. If you have ranged attacks, or several of them, then they would.

I'm thinking of Castlevania, Ghost and Goblins, etc as similar type games that have a dark theme.

For the combat system i thought the player would have some kind of "Gun" with ranged attacks.. I just didn't decide what kind of weapon this should be.

Things to think about for these: different speed/toughnesses. Vampires would likely have a swarm of bats and be very tough. If you have several weapons, mummies would be vulnerable to fire.

Maybe i could make small powerups that would make your weapon shoot things like fire for example?
But to make the toughness system work properly there would have to be loads of powerups.

It's common to have different guns. Machine guns could be great against swarms of bats, as would shotguns. You can build up to it after you get the basics working :)

I think WingedPanther had a point. I think the best way is to start by making the map and add certain monsters. Then you should test it a few times and add more obstacles and power ups where possible and needed ;)
