Hey all!
I'm A3MIRAL!

I'm not new here, but I doubt any of you will remember me. I said that I would be back once I learned PHP.
Well here I am. I've progressed do much from when I made that post, and I'm here to learn and share. Right now I'm focusing on JavaScript. I have a good base of it though, as I learned it to start with JQuery, which I love!

Well here I am, I will be active, so expect me around!

(PS, my previous post mentioned was by an account name xAdmiralx or Admiral or xAdmiralx or something like that. Please don't delete this account, but if you could delete the other one. I have a new name and email and everything now. Thanks a lot! (I know how hard it is to run a good forum and keep up with everyone's requests and such, and I applause you for the work you've put into this forum)

Welcome back Sir! I see no issue in a new account when the old one is laid to rest long ago.

It is great to hear you have gotten more acquainted with PHP, I myself am learning to write various JavaScript calculators for my hobby work (electronics) so that there is no need to hit buttons and refresh pages so often.

Alexander.

AJAX/JQuery or straight JavaScript?
I could see how one could do it with JQuery (and AJAX, but I'm more fimiliar with JQuery)
Sound interesting though!

Mostly JavaScript for now. An onKeyUp event for input boxes and math in JS can suffice for my limited applications. jQuery is definitely my next iteration after I get more comfortable.

I remember now, that was nearly a year ago. Time flies!

Does anyone mind explaining to me what jQuery is? I mean I'm pretty sure it's a library, but is it an include file from a particular website, or is it a JavaScript native mode, etc.? Also, if it's possible with jQuery, wouldn't it be possible with plain JavaScript?

@A3MIRAL: Sorry, I don't remember you. But still, welcome back.

As is probably pretty obvious, I don't know much about jQuery, but I do have, more or less, some experience with JavaScript, which is the language I use most. Other languages I use are C and assembly. I also know some other languages, but I don't usually use all of them.

JQuery is a write-less-do-more library.
It is included by script tags. You can either download it yourself and include that file or save bandwidth and include google's JQuery. To get the code, just google "google JQuery" and it's on the page of the first hit.
Yes, whatever can be done in JQuery can be done in pure JavaScript, but with much more writing (how much more is dependent on the function)

I would suggest checking out w3schools.com for their JQuery tutorial, it's very good for beginners (oil pretty sure it explains how to include JQuery too)
Then, get the sitepoint book "JQuery: Novice to Ninja"

Good luck!
