I'm getting back into coding and a friend pointed out "haXe"
Has anyone used this before that could tell me if it's really worth checking out?

I've heard of it before if I recall. If you are interested in the kinds of applications it targets to make, then go ahead. You certainly may have more power, but it may take too long to learn some other languages to make neat applications. That may be a great choice if it is mature and has well written documentation.
