I've been thinking about this for the past few months, how accurate are the titles that say things like "Newbie" or "Learning Programmer" or "Programmer" or "Programming Professional" or "Programming Expert" or ...
I mean, if it's based on the number of posts a member has - which mostly looks to me like it is - then one who doesn't know much programming (or doesn't do it for a job) can "become" a programming professional, whereas a user might be an expert at programming, and yet have a title of "Newbie" or "Learning Programmer."
What do you guys think about all this title stuff?

It's an extremely common theme among message boards, if a board were oriented around military you could have "private, corporal, ..." to show how long you've been on the forum.
Ideally this is nonsense, however the later ranks can reflect expertise or seniority. It also helps when people do not post very often (posting many times per day can get someone pretty high up even if they are "not befitting to any specific rank")

I think it is more of a tool for measuring or adding value to user activity; not so much programming skill.

Good way to put it. As far as I know, this setting was predetermined by post count and maybe other metrics. I think a better metric might be the Rep Power, where you can give a user more reputation if they answered a question well. However, we don't want to get into a situation where everyone is asking around for rep power.

Yeah, it's not very easy - and probably even not practically very possible - to tell at what level of experience someone really is.

Like it been said before, the title are only to show how close you are to the forum.
The "real" level of knowledge should be more representative with the reputation and the promotion... but thoses are based on the reputation point, and no body use them anymore, it's kind of hard to even know where the +1 reputation button is
But seriously, I don't really mind about this, I don't want this forum to become like stackoverflow where most of the user don't really care about the problem, they only want to solve easy answer as fast as they can to get more point
This forum is a place that I come to relax, help and be helped. I like take my time to help or describe the problem, I don't want to post code snippet that half work just to be the first one to post it.
In a other word, just leave thoses settings like that, they are simple a little game... and I like being a programming god :)

I don't like being called a deity; I was even called that when a new member tried asking me about something via PM (the message's subject was something like "Hi god..."). Though I think the title would probably change when I get to 1000 posts, and I'm not that far away from that many :D.
I wonder what the next title would be; "Speaks Fluent Binary" ? If that's the next title, then I'd have to learn the Intel opcodes over the Christmas break :D.

By the way, wouldn't you be a programming 'goddess' , in that case?

So I wish to have the point of view of other programmer.
I had 3 serious relation in my life.
The first one is getting married with some guy... some 67years old guy... that spend 15years in jail (she's something like 22 right now) and they are trying for kids
The second one have a major crush on a guy who came to his high school in canada (montreal) with a gun and shoot everyone than kill himself. And that crush started after that event.
And my third relation was with a 24years old virgin... 100% virgin.
So my question, is every programmer have really weird relationship or I'm the one with a problem?

You said in that post that you married with some guy, ..., etc.
This is really not making sense.
