Hello,

During christmas I won't be home, and I'll travel a lot (my family is very far from each other).
I do have a laptop, but it starting to be old (something like 6 years... so pretty old).

I was thinking of buying a tablet so it would take less space, but I don't know what tablet to buy.
Since I want to work, and I work with eclipse, I need a tablet that I can hack and install ubuntu on it.
I don't really need a lot (well it's maybe a lot for a tablet), ubuntu, eclipse, lamp server and that its.

So anyone have a tablet in mind that could do the tricks?

I don't know; I never had a tablet.

Though as for the laptop getting old part, I got my laptop approximately a little over 2 years ago, and I thought my laptop was old. :):D However, on my laptop I have no choice but to only rely on power outlets; the battery on it broke about a year after I got it.

Well this thread is a little bit old, but I'll give my input.

I'll assume you're looking at Android tablets? Not sure but as far as I can see the only Android/Ubuntu boot is on thin Galaxy Tab. Dual Boot a Galaxy Tab with Honeycomb and Ubuntu - How-To Geek

Another thing to consider is if you switch to a tablet you lose power, performance, and storage. For only a few hundred dollars more you could get a i3-i5 laptop, with a tablet you lose at least 300GB of storage, 3GB RAM, graphic capability, your CD/DVD drive and your keyboard(not counting the touch keyboard( you can buy one of course)), which may effect your work quite a bit.

In my opinion I would stick with a laptop, they're slightly bigger yes, but they have much more power/capability's and you'll be able to put any Linux distro you want on it, for only a couple hundred dollars more then a you'd spend on a tablet.

Good luck with your choice. ~ Committed. :)

Thx for your input.
I know a laptop have a lot more power, but I want something more for mobility.
I was looking for the asus transformer that look pretty good, but didn't find any article for ubuntu on it... I'll wait a cople of month and take a other look
