Hello, I do not have a direct request for help with a specific issue but I just finished setting up a little website for my software and computer-related products at sqoshSoft - Home as I am 16 and have no training in web design or front-end development I thought I should ask if there were any obvious flaws with the site or if any more learned developers had some general comments? Backwards compatibility with older browser may be an issue but I am trying to create a design that is compatible with at least IE 8 (IE 7 seems not to be able to even display the navigation menu properly). I should add that the 'Other' section is about to be replaced with a blog and that the favicon will change to an 'S' in a similar style.
This would help a lot,
Thanks

It displays properly on Chromium (Display: 1920x1080).
Few comments: first impression was: does he think I am blind? (Font is really big!), a bit plain, very simple, like titles are just bigger version of paragraph text. But I don't think that that kind of web needs to be extremely eye catching.
I like color matching, tho bright websites doesn't make your eyes as tired as dark ones. Its easy to move around and find information.
Just one question, is it designing or codding of website is your drawback? Which of those you are trying to improve?

Design was more what I am trying to improve. Do you really think the font is too big? What size do you think the font should be - it is currently just the default. I'm glad you like the colour matching. I think that being simple isn't really a bad thing as there isn't a great deal of content on the website and those who visit will probably leave once they download the program they are looking for. Do you have any suggestions for the titles?
Also, whilst I am trying to improve the design of the website, your last statement suggested that you think the coding could also be improved - do you have any thoughts on that?

About font size: it really depends, try to make it few pt smaller and see how it looks like, cuz for some reason huge font reminds me of websites for children or made by them.
Titles: by titles I means something more fancy, but your point is good, people will leave once they download what they were looking for so there is no necessity to make web extremely appealing. Personally, I make it simple as well, but more outstanding, sometimes add some icon at the beginning of it (like arrow or bubble, depends).
About codding: thing is I didnt know with what you are struggling, if you are using only HTML I doubt any programmer would struggle with it, since it is very basic language. But if you want to improve your designing skills, I suggest you check out Photoshop tutorials, gather different CG ideas and then try to put them together, sometimes I steal certain ideas from other websites, but key factor will always be: try to be original.

The most important aspect is setting up a user friendly website.Since you are selling products online, there must be a lot of information on the web pages. The vistitors should be able to view this information and website navigation should also be easy. Since you are also planning to setup a blog, you might consider wordperss hosting for setting up the website and the blog. WordPress is a great platform for setting up a blog and you will also get varioys templates and themes to make your website look more impressive.

One thing when i go on your site is that i went into the "Scriptlets" section.. But i couldn't find any information about what the scrips we're for or how i would use it.
It took me actualy some time to figure out that you have to only click the image of the two brackets({}) to get the information about it. That was the only thing that i had problem with on the site.

Otherwise its a good site. And if you we're planning on making the font smaller don't go too small it will be annoying for people to read :)
