Hey guys, this is my first post on this forum, I'm Mowk, maybe Ill post an introduction later. I was looking for a good general programming forum and this looks nice

Anyways, I have a question, but heres some background first if It may help. I'm currently attending a university and about done my first semester. In my computer science class we are reading the textbook Zelles Intro to computer science, which focuses on the language of python to explain some basics in the computer science field. I have finished the book. It dealt with object oriented programming, functions, decisions, loops/recursion and other basic stuff.

I am switching universities and programs, to go into mathematics and computer science. So programming is going to be a big part of my life from now on, and I am glad about that. I have learned the basics of multiple languages but I have never really gone past that point to write very useful applications. It's almost like there is too many options and its hard to know what direction to take. It seems like there is many beginner tutorials and many advanced tutorials but nothing in between.

Basically I am just looking for someone to point me in the right direction. At my new school I will be learning Java as a primary language but I also like programming in python. If anyone has any books they could suggest or online tutorials I would be very grateful. I also appreciate just general tips!

Thanks

Many of the "inbetween" tutorials will be self learning, you should discover things that cause experience over practice. Advanced tutorials are great to help with advanced practices and techniques that may not come on your own.

We have a Java tutorials section which may hold some interesting things, however I am sure a Java programmer here can list some better practices.
