Hi
How will be Windows API Programming in Windows 8?
Windows 8 has a new and different environment. Developing apps for Windows 8 will be different. this is what I found in a Microsoft page:

Quote

Windows Runtime and app model The Windows Runtime (WinRT) is a straightforward set of APIs used to build Metro style apps. WinRT lets you build apps that look great and are intuitive for your customers to use. WinRT APIs are available to developers in multiple languages, including JavaScript, C++, C#, and Visual Basic. The new Windows SDK for Metro style apps also includes a subset of traditional Win32, Component Object Model (COM), and .NET Framework APIs, as well as HTML5 and CSS3 APIs that are accessible to Metro style app developers.

Will Windows API programming be useful for Windows 8?! Will it change significantly?!
I wrote this ebook! Will you translate it into English for free!? PM me!

It might be the extended version of the current API.
I think i'm able to write a code for printing "Hello, World!". Proud of that!

Do you mean that current Windows API won't be obsolete in Windows 8?
All I want to know is if I'm wasting my time learning windows api?

Ahan! You are never wasting your time. What ever it might be but the concept and mechanism remains the same. You have to learn it all.

You know I have a class of MASM 16 bit Assembly for IBM-PC. Now, who will think more that he is wasting his time? You or me? It's non of us.

Current win32 api will still be supported. If it weren't then no current windows program could run under windows 8.

Hi!
Most likely development would not be different, but here is the internal implementation will differ.:)

I read on an Ars Technica article that Microsoft is dumping Win32 in favor of a completely new API. They're doing a complete overhaul of their OS to make it run better on tablets. Just another example of MS playing catch-up, because they've lost the ability to be a leader, so now they're just imitating trends. IMO they should just do what Apple did and make a separate OS to run on tablets, but maybe they're on a tight budget, or maybe they just want to spend their R&D money on suing people.
Programming is a journey, not a destination.
