Hey guys,
I'm having some trouble with some of my calculus homework, if someone out there is good at calculus
and is willing to help, I would be very grateful!
Thanks!

Hey, I'm taking Differential Calculus this term.
Anyway, what class are you in?

I'm in Math 109, and we've moved onto topics such as extrema, concavity, optimization, and I'm probably missing a few.

The college I'm in calls Differential Calculus math 251.

Is there anything specific you need help in?

Right now I'm taking a look at a video "Calculus I in 20 minutes" it's actually helping a lot since I know a lot of the terminology, I just don't know how it all comes together.
I blame my professor for that because she isn't very clear.
A problem I'm working on is Find two positive numbers satisfying the given requirements.
The sum of the first and twice the second is 360 and the product is a maximum.
I'm working at it now.

Whenever I need to reference calculus stuff I like to look here at Paul's Online Notes:
Pauls Online Notes : Calculus I - Optimization

I'm teaching Business Calculus this semester. Something important to be aware of: there is NO standard numbering of classes between colleges. Where I'm teaching, 109 is an algebra class, for example.

I've never taken a calculus class, but I learned it from a textbook a few years ago. I could try to help you with the topics you are working on.

I watched a video yesterday and it cleared a lot of things up for me. I just seem to be having trouble with optimization problems, like one about pasture, and to provide enough grass you need 45,000 square feet of fencing around the pasture, the pasture is rectangular adjacent to a river and does not need fencing along the river, and then just figure out the minimized fencing etc.

Is there a specific problem you need help with? Or do you just need help with the general idea behind it.

General idea behind it. I know that a good way to look at it is to make connections between what you want and what you know.
So for a problem like that for example you're looking to get the Area, which would be A. The method my professor taught us was to find your primary equation and then secondary, and then continue forward taking the first derivative but it's all very confusing to piece together.

Remember back in algebra when you had a system of equations, and one method of solving was substitution? That's the key idea: Write a system of equations, solve for one variable in one equation and substitute in the others until you get one function with one variable. Then you can use the derivative to find the critical points and locate the extrema.
