1) You are assuming such a thing exists.
2) If it did exist, having it be open-source in the US would probably be illegal (DMCA).
With that said, You'll probably do better to just pay for it, it's not that expensive.

Probably due to the fact that copying DVD media that isn't yours such as a movie or game is illegal due to copyright laws. @WingedPanther was referring to this: Digital Millennium Copyright Act - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

depends if you are copying your own dvds you personally bought yourself you are allowed one copy. and if it is as illegal i think sly soft would have been shut down by now. but copying dvds you already own is not illegal.
but thank you for the help anyway

I'm pretty sure it would be illegal because it decrypts DRM on DVDs, and that capability isn't meant to be public. Anyway, though, the program has been outlawed in Germany, so that shows something about how touchy the subject of decrypting DVDs is.

DVD decrypting and copying is just a very iffy topic. Yes, there are many programs that do it, but many of them have permission to do it. I doubt that a DVD decrypter will ever come out open source.

There is an open-source DVD decrypter, but it is so iffy that it isn't hosted in the US. Blue-Ray becomes even worse, because it was introduced after DCMA, so attempting to crack it to use in an open-source tool (which would never be licensed) is illegal.
