Hi guys,

lifeandtimes.com

This site is Jay-Z's personal blog or whatever, but it uses a design I haven't really seen before. How would one go about making something like that?
Looking at the source html it seems to have some JavaScript, XML, CSS...but in general, would it be difficult to make something like this? I've never really seen this type of dynamic/tiled design.
Seems a bit like Win8 Metro...is there some HTML5 magic on this page?

Thanks.

Judging by the time it takes to load: poorly.

In all seriousness, there's no way to really know, judging by the HTML that is served.

This website is 14.1mb!!!
I guess people don't really care about bandwidth now. I only hope no 56k is trying to access this website

No magic at all, simply a lots of div one after the other with image in each of them, you could do the same with good old table for some time now.
Except for the square, I don't really see why you say it look like metro, there is no drag & drop, no resize, no nothing, simply div one after the other.

I gave up on waiting for it with my 1.5mbs DSL line. This looks like a great example of what NOT to do in website design.

@troon: Don't emulate this design. It's a great way to drive away traffic.

Hehe.. Thanks for the replies. Not planning on doing a site like this, I was just curious as I haven't seen this type of design before. Maybe there's a reason why...
But I'll take your word for it: no special sauce in the design, and horrific on bandwidth ;)
