What sort of programming languages are used to create html editors (including both WYSIWYG editors and the basic text editors, which can be used to create web pages)?

I've seen the written in C, C++, Java, .NET, and assembly. An HTML editor is almost any text editor with syntax highlighting. There are hundreds of them.
