Hello everybody, I'm an Italian student (and have been a professional PHP/javscript/MySQL programmer) interested in making web-oriented technologies at the service of kindly-hearted people, with the goal of promoting effective and pain-less cooperation in humanity driven networks and associations. In my volunteering experience in fact I've noticed a tremendous lack of smart and specific community oriented tools that could be nowadays easily provided with tremendous utility and positive resonance.

During the past years I've been looking at the problems of these real life networks and for their solutions, refining my ideas on the subject. The result of this thinking process has been a project - still existing almost exclusively in my mind - by the former name of The Humanity Center: a platform that will be composed of some (as much as possible) simple and essential functions, with the exclusive focus of connecting people in useful ways. The community will be kept safe from spam, bots and similar sadnesses by a simple meritocratic/hierarchical moderators system.

Any programmer that would like to join the project will do so as a pure volunteering action, but hopefully for those that in the end will have given the major contribution this could turn into a nice full-time job through donations, possible Google adv and similar. The purpose of the project is anyway by no means that of finding new ways to gain money and therefore anyone whose will is driven by this intent is kindly invited not to answer this call.

Almost every single aspect of the project is clearly defined in my mind, but for the sake of simplicity I'd be rather happier to discuss about it with whoever would be interested in it on Skype or whatsoever voip program. Below I'll be introducing the three main functions that I think should be prioritized for their simplicity and effectiveness, so that you could have a rough idea of what's this about.

  • Events Calendar: a virtual calendar where users can report events in accordance with specific guidelines (that will have to be approved by a moderator before becoming publicly visible). The high level of users and events profile customization (that also includes geolocational calculations) will allow anyone to be informed by email of upcoming events of his interest, without any need for him to regularly visit the website. The content and frequency of emails flow will be totally customizable as everything else.
  • Human Support Donation: a sort of bazaar were people - instead of buying or selling things - donate their person, and specifically their knowledge. Here people will be able to offer free courses more or less open to one or another audience. Whatever things one can do, here he can share it with the rest of the world: sewing, computer use, accountancy for fair trade shops, swimming, trekking, massage therapy, gymnastics, botany courses: whatever constructive and positive knowledge they wish to share, here they can do it.
  • Functions for Volunteers and Associations: here volunteers associations can express their needs of short and long term help needs, and users can ask questions and talk with others about this beautiful world. The associations will also be provided with functions as member newsletter, a search engine for new or previous volunteers and things like that.

The will of sharing with others and loving them is one of the most deep human instinct and the only one capable of leading to true happiness. This project is only about giving people another tool to achieve this.

My Skype and Gmail id is lzzncl88: feel free to privately contact me for sharing your ideas and/or applying to become part of the development team. Suggestions about other networks were I could look for help would also be very appreciated.

Thank you for reading this post. Hoping to hear some of you soon, I wish you a pleasant and joyful day!
Best regards,
Nico
