I have basic knowledge of Java. I would like to learn to program for android. Anyone know a good material to learn from the beginning about Android programming?

I would strongly recommend getting the book Hello Android (Amazon.com: Hello, Android: Introducing Google's Mobile Development Platform (Pragmatic Programmers) (9781934356562): Ed Burnette: Books).

It is well written and you get to build a Sudoku game incrementally while being introduced to the various features of the Android SDK ;)

If you don't want to purchase a book you could start with the tutorials over at Android Developers (search for tutorials).

I don't think why you should consider another source then the official one itself

The Developer's Guide | Android Developers

Only if you are stuck into some particular area and don't find this documentation sufficient, you should look for others.

Stick around for the new CodeCall Android Dev forum. Right now, I'm working on getting things setup, and getting some devs to come over here, but once I get done, I'll definitely be around to help.
