I don't know anything about Avant's importing capabilities, but Firefox can export your bookmarks in a standard JSON format. Maybe Avant can import that. In Firefox, go to Bookmarks > Show all Bookmarks, Click the Import and Backup button, and select Backup. Then save your JSON file to any location on your hard drive.

Most modern versions of FireFox store their bookmarks in a SQLite database, if I recall correctly.

Foxmarks (Xmarks now) Download Xmarks | Bookmark Sync and Search is the best such sync software. I have been using it with all sorts of browsers. There is a plug in for firefox.
