If you are an online business owner like me and follow the contents of this forum regularly then you must have an idea about secured web hosting platforms. Needless to say, the complexities of the Internet is increasing with time and running an online business is not as simple as it used to be earlier. As a business owner you need to pick the most suitable web hosting solution. From my experience I would say that choosing a web hosting service provider that offers a robust Virtual Private server app is the best decision you can take.

That isn't really a question, however I agree with your point.

However, it really depends on server load. I personally have found that under heavy load, a dedicated physical box far outperforms a VPS any day of the week.

This is just my two cents :)

The main benefits of VPS hosting include the following:

1. the traffic and activities of other VPS customers will not adversely affect your operation unlike the shared hosting plan
2. You have your own allotment of resources; this enables fast loading of your website
3. You have the complete freedom to choose the operating system you want and the software you would like to install on the server
4. You get a better disk space, CPU and RAM with a virtual private server

I have seen a lot of people shying away from Linux because they think it is not as user friendly as windows. However, the ground reality is that more and more people are choosing the Linux virtual server model for their web hosting needs. The main reasons for this are the flexibility and rock solid security that you can get from Linux kernel. In the long run it also turns out to be more cost effective than other VPS solutions.

If you are planning to start an e commerce business and want to stay in the business for long then you will require a stable server for managing and running your site. I can tell you from my experience that you cannot go wrong with a Linux dedicated server. Linux is no longer the geek friendly OS devoid of a nice GUI! A lot of people choose the Apache server. What you get from this platform is flexibility and enhanced security.

Dedicated servers provide with power and magnitude and therefore they compliment eCommerce business. With an eCommerce business, it is important that the uptime of your website is maintained; otherwise the visitors may conveniently switch to some other website. The hosting configurations provided with a dedicated server ensure the uptime and speed of your website. It is also crucial to check the processors offered with the dedicated server hosting plan.

Since VPS has had much better uptime, is much faster, and gives you much more freedom, since you can install any panel you want, it can be perfect solution for running web sites.

Not all hosting companies own or lease their own web servers. Some of them are actually resellers for some other hosting company. The disadvantage of using a reseller is the possibility that you are dealing with people who don't know much about the system they are selling and who take longer to help you (they have to transmit your technical support request to the actual hosting company for it to be acted upon).
