Hey all!

I've been a bit inactive last week. Jeez, I'm becoming more and more busy every day...
I have lots of old computers now, and until I'm gonna build a cluster and since my goal is learning I'm gonna try to build a RAID. I do have a spare PSU put I have no idea how to connect the HDDs to a single system. Since I only have 2 IDE ports on a computer I can only connect 4 HDDs to a system. What if I want to connect 5? I don't like USB because enclosures are expensive and slow - basically crap. Can I connect multiple HDDs to a single port and make them act as one?

Thanks, Mike.[A bit late but happy Valentines!]

The limitation tends to be mostly bandwidth, IDE will be with two EIDE/ATA devices and SCSI (wide bus) will support up to 16 SATA devices. You may purchase an IDE expansion card (controller card) which will interface with PCI and provide another port, these are usually not too much more expensive. You may wish to look at options that are SCSI compatible (i.e. a new motherboard).

With your power, those old things take maybe 10 watts, you can easily use a splitter to supply two drives with one molex cable

I didn't know you can get extra IDE controllers, lol
Unfortunately I only have IDE hard drives and I don't wanna purchase new ones, so SCSI won't work. Splitting the power is a good idea too.
