Senior PHP Developer/Project Manager
With over 150 clients in the UK alone, our client is one of the most exciting software companies in the Cambridge cluster.
Although their products are designed predominantly for local authorities, they work with all types of organizations around the world, in the finance, not-for-profit and education sectors.
They are now seeking a senior PHP developer, with a strong background in both PHP, Drupal and .net. Future projects will be programmed in a range of these languages. The ideal candidate will both relish detailed programming and development while also being able to communicate effectively with the rest of the development and testing teams. They will have a strong interest in software development technology and be keen to keep up with current trends surrounding PHP and Drupal.
Project management is also a large part of this role. The successful candidate will be managing a team of outsourced developers depending on project requirements. They will be assigning various development tasks to an array of developers. It is therefore important to have a firm grasp of technology as the successful candidate will have to both check the outsourced work and make sure mistakes are caught at source, not allowing bugs or problems to progress through the development process.
Essential Duties:
• Lead a team of outsourced developers to maintain, improve and develop new projects.
• Ownership of development cycle including:
• Lead/produce technical design, and ensure quality, design adherence and integrity throughout project lifecycle
• Gather requirements, scope and fully plan projects.
• Recommend development approach.
• Prioritization and distribution of development tasks.
• Participation some quality control and functionality testing plans.
• Ensure that systems architectures balance functional, service quality and systems management requirements as indicated by management’s brief
• Work with management team to understand functionality requirements and develop development plans accordingly.
Required Skills:
• 3-5+ years of PHP development
• Experience in Project management, ideally managing outsourced teams. Be able to effectively communicate between the development and testing teams.
• Solid understanding of and proficiency in PHP, MySQL, Drupal, .net, java
• Successful track record of analyzing requirements, putting together estimates, and delivering projects successfully and on schedule.
• Salary £40, 000- 55,000, depending on experience.

First, I would make up your mind whether you are looking for a project manager or a PHP programmer. They are two very different skill sets that often won't overlap.
If you want a project leader, I would de-emphasize the project management skills. If you want a project manager, I would de-emphasize the PHP requirements.
