I'm Osunkoya Opeoluwa Stephen, A final year student for a B.Sc in computer science in Covenant University Ota, Nigeria. I'm Currently searching for a programming language to use for my final year project. It's on intelligent traffic control. I've already done the research part but the challenge is in the simulation part. I initially wanted to do it in Actionscript but my supervisor refuced. he told me he wanted it in a programming language not as a script. I request your guidance on what language to use to implement if. A few of the things the language should easily implement include 1. Easy display of roads in 2d. (i don't need any graphics at all). ATS executable available at { http://sourceforge.n...rojects/atsimu/ } is an example of what i want to build. 2. An ability to mouse over any object and view its metadata e.g weight, speed, destination, etc. 3. An ability to set the speed of the vehicles as i release them from one source and they find their ways to the destination by themselves. Your guidance will be genuinely appreciated.

I would suggest that you use either Java or C++, I think it will depend which one you are much comfortable with but i would highly recommend Java.

Good Luck!

Hi Osunkoya, welcome aboard!

First you should ask your supervisor what is his definition of programming language and script. Also you have to decide the target environment first. Linux? Windows? Mac? Win CE/Mobile? Web? Does your supervisor allow virtual machine (like Java requires)?

Anyways, if you are targeting either Linux, Windows, Mac, WinCE, FreeBSD (and perhaps iPhone) you can try learning FreePascal compiler with Lazarus IDE. They can easily answer your requirements. As the name suggests, FreePascal is based on Pascal language. Therefore it's very easy to learn.
