Hi. Currently, I am attending a state university with my focus on Computer Science. I'm still fulfilling my prerequisites at the moment but I enjoy doing this kind of thing. I made my first website 11 years ago so I am very well versed in HTML, CSS and Photoshop but feel very far behind when it comes to programming languages. I tried to learn PHP once but was limited to scant resources at the time.
I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask... but which programming language should I learn first? I'm interested in creating social networking websites (if I can create on these, I can probably create any kind of website) along with online games such as War of Legends.
Thanks for having me and all help is appreciated!

Hi Severe! Welcome aboard!
Actually I believe you already are on a good track. PHP is good for web programming. No wonder that the largest social networking site uses it.

Welcome Severe!
PHP is indeed a great language to work with the web, it can be combined into existing HTML documents and the documentation online is helpful with many user submitted notes and examples. Feel free to ask away on how to get started any time you like.

Thanks. I guess PHP it is! Only thing is... it will be hard to program a game with PHP since it's not primarily object oriented.

It has come a long way since PHP 4, classes for most database oriented games are not bad at all to write.

Alright. I guess now would be a good time to ask about how/where I can get started!

You can develop PHP scripts on your own computer (no need to own a website), what operating system do you have?

Windows. I should install XAMPP right? Where should I begin with tutorials?

Yes, XAMPP is a good objection. There is a nice set of tutorials at Tizag to learn the language basics:
