Hi,
New here. I'm a 17 year old programming newbie, applying to college very soon and I want to start/be a part of any programming project (probably open source). I know very little except for some HTML, and I'm looking for something I can learn and apply as fast as a week or two. Even if it's just to (learn how to) execute a specific task/play a specific redundant role in the development of an app/software. I just want to have an undergoing project I can mention in my application essay so as to express my love for CS in my application. Can you please help with suggestions?

Thanks a lot.

Erm, you don't know anything about programming and you want to be a part of an open source project? You got to learn how to program first, I'm sorry but there's no way you'll be able to do what you intend to do in 2 weeks.
Just choose a language and study it. I myself began with C.

Thanks for the response. I probably sounded like a stupid ass hence why I have so many views and only one reply. I also figured out it was impossible to do anything in two weeks. Thanks

I would recommend learning JavaScript as a good way to leverage the HTML you already know. Alternatively, you could start on PHP. You will probably still be learning the basics in 2 weeks, however.
Programming is a branch of mathematics.

I'd suggest to learn C/C++, PERL, JAVA: because most of the Open Source is in these languages.

You can be a software tester. Just test the software and report for the bug. I think thats usefull in a project. :) You can also learn the code while testing it. :D
