Argo UML looked great when I was advised to download it for my software engineering course. It did statecase, activity and usecase diagrams.

Many lost hours later I realized it is extremly buggy to the point it is unusable. Is there any alternatives to argo UML that have the same features? Is there any word art/symbol packages that supply the necessary symbols for these types of diagrams?

Thanks in advance:c-smile:

I generally use Dynamic Draw or Dia. Both are Free, open source, and can be used to create UML diagrams. Dynamic Draw has a steeper learning curve, but is more powerful.

You can find list of UML tools here and here (wikipedia). My personal choice is Enterprise Architect from Sparx System, though!

Cheers!

Glad if I can help! Could you update us with your choice and also why you choose it? I believe many of us here want to try new UML tool (myself included) too, just don't have the time to test or to invest learning time.

Cheers!

Sure although I'll likely be waiting till my next project so I may be a while.
I had started my current project with argoUML so just tried to finish it off as I was almost done. Just had to save alot seeing as it freezes so often. Was also a day before my deadline and I had the feeling I'd be looking around a while to find support for class diagrams, sequence diagrams and activity diagrams all in one program.

I'll be back with my choice next term. I've also got to find a new JDE enviroment in the meantime.

SmartDraw ( SmartDraw - Communicate Visually with the World's First Visual Processor™ ) is excellent. It does way more than just UML, but it the UML feature of it is very good also.
I used Dia before, because it was free and the first one to show up on google, and I had no problems with it. It does what it's meant to do, good.

Just a side note: Umbrello is also free, and cross-platform.
