Hey guys,

I wanted to try building apps for i(phone/pad/pod) but I can't do that on my PC (without purchasing software that i don't have the money for) so i was looking for cheap macs on ebay. I found a couple that have the reserver lifted and are currently sitting around $0.99 with free shipping. the specs are insanely low but i am hoping they are enough to build apps on.

here are the specs for the one i'm about to bid on:

Quote

Processor Type: PowerPC G3
Product Family: iBook Processor
Speed (per Core): 500 MHz
Screen Size: 12 inches
Processor Configuration: Single Core
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.4, Tiger
Memory (RAM): 320 MB
Primary Drive: CD-RW/DVD Combo
Hard Drive Capacity: 15 GB

So can I build and run i(phone/pad/pod) apps on such a skimpy machine?

I would say no, modern macs use Intel chips, I'm not sure you could develop modern mac software on an obsolete processor architecture. I'd install a virtual machine or setup a hackintosh.

I can not find official specifications, but however EHow lists it can:
Apple Xcode 2.4.1 System Requirements | eHow.com

It requires 10.4 and 256MBs of RAM which your system will both satisfy. Note compiling + IDE work will definitely take more than that, so most of your work may run off of swap memory and can be slow, but it is possible to develop with it.

alright thanks for the quick reply. Do you know were i could...... borrow a .iso of a mac Os that would work for this type of development so i can run it on VMware Player?

Edit about to check out links in nulls post

Edit2: So assuming that the artical null posted is correct it will barely make the requirements but it would do the trick. ..... hmm the lag would probably be really bad. I think I will search for a .ISO first and if i cant find one I will bid on the mac (should have searched for the .ISO to begin with but i forgot about virtual machines.)
