Does anyone here use Mathematica and what do you use it for?
Can anyone see strong benefits to using Mathematica over using over source code, software, or writing ones own program.

For general programming, I don't think anyone uses Mathematica. It's one of those tools that is very good at what it does (math), and not very good outside that. Since symbolic algebra/calculus is not needed for most applications, it's more of a neat tool than a useful one, generally.
Programming is a branch of mathematics.

That was my feeling, but I need some outside input. Thanks, you saved me from spending money better spent somewhere else.
