I have a presentation to make for a programming languages course. I have to compare the functional language scheme to the imperative language perl regarding efficiency, error checking, and program verification. An opinions/suggestions?

Do you know either of these languages? I would read a couple introductory tutorials to get a feel for the basics of working with each, for starters.

For efficiency, you could time how long it takes to make a simple program, how much memory it uses while executing, and how long it takes to execute.
Programming is a branch of mathematics.
