Hey, I needs help with my program. Can anyone tell me what's wrong with it and if my approach is all wrong? I know there are other ways but I can't figure out why this one isn't working. The answer should be 5537376230, but I'm getting 4696151770.

I used macros to set up the array with npp, so I'm pretty sure the array is right. I'll do it again just in case though. I watched variables with a debugger throughout the whole program and everything seems to work as it should, it just gives the wrong answer. Is it possible my method of carrying doesn't actually work on paper to begin with?

Well, the first thing I would do is save the numbers to file, instead of creating an array. That helps avoid potential issues with miscopying them. You can read them in on char at a time.

Second, you have a HUGE problem: the sum of one hundred 50-digit numbers is pretty much guaranteed to be a 52 digit number. You haven't allowed enough room in your carry array for that.

I use The GNU MP Bignum Library to help me stay sane with these problems. The C++ wrapper turns most of it into simple arithmetic.

the carry array doesn't store the answer, it only stores 50 sums of the 50 columns which are all 3 digit numbers. The answer array holds 49 one digit numbers and one two digit number, so there is a problem there as it only holds 51 digits. However the answer won't be much different if I fix that anyway, but I'll fix it anyway and try the file in method

edit: Actually it does store 49 single digit numbers and one three digit number so it does return a 52 digit number. I'll try the file in
