Hi,
Long time listener, first time caller.
About me. I'm old, and while my knowledge about computers, files, etc. is pretty good, my programming knowledge is well... awful.
What I would like to be able to do is make some programs which will do basic things like, go to a specified file and pull out all the metadata and export that data to a word doc, txt, or .csv file. Or point the program at a folder and have it tell me all the information it cal tell me about that folder MACE times, ID info, etc.
What would be a good language for me to start with? This would need to be a program which could run in windows, I just don't feel confident enough to make something to run in CMD.
I'll probably be looking at a SAMS or Dummies book or course, so any recommendations there is also appreciated.
Thanks for having me on your forums.
Old, bald, grape, ape.

Welcome!
There are many languages of which can accomplish this, I believe maybe vb.net would be the most simple solution, it can work with files and .NET components, but has a familiar BASIC-like syntax so it should be easier for beginners. There are also "drag & drop" window form generation with visual studio which is a plus.
The vb.net for dummies book should suffice, there are definitely many simple tutorials on the web to work with files and folders, plus we have tutorials here and a vb section. :)
The IDE should be downloadable here (may require some sort of basic registration): Microsoft Express Downloads - Visual Studio Express and SQL Server Express
