I'm wanting to do an alternative for Rosetta Stone. Every forum I visit (linux, yahoo, programming) always seem to be asking for one, but no one seems to be attempting one. I only know BASIC which isn't a problem for me. I believe I can still do it, but I need (lots of .bmp, .wav,) a dictionary file, a configuration file, and a folder layout for each language. I don't want to pack all that information together and I definitely don't want to manage each and every one of the languages. Furthermore I'll have to take all those photos and create all those audio files by myself if no one is interested. Anyone have any suggestions? I've pretty much got the code layout in my head. Now I need to write it, but I don't even want to try it, if no one isn't going to have any interests in it.

Well tbh honest the code is relativly simple (the voice recongition bit is harder.) But the real work is in creating the all the pictures, then writing the scripts and recording etc. I'm currently using a Rosetta stone and there is a massive amount of content there. It's alot for one person todo.

So if your really serious about it then create a generic framework and try and gather people together (using the open source community) to take the pictures and write the scripts etc.

Unfortunately the voice thing was the only thing I was going to skip. Would you mind describing and adding some pics of the program? So I can get a general idea?

I won't post pics as the content will be copyrighted. The thing is the program is designed to follow the flow of the language course, and has a number of different exercises based around that.

Maybe you should design how you want to teach people to learn a different language first, then you can design the content and program to deliver it?
