how make Key for active our software?

Hi
I want to sell my software in internet and my clients active it by key i give to them.
when clients type key in field then software should connect to my server and check to see key is correct or not then active software(if key is right)
i don't know how make this, please help me

You don't know how to make your software connect to a server? Or you don't know how to do this on the server? Or both? What operating system?
