you can learn any, but i think that C++ is a good start as most other popular object oriented languages ( by this I dont mean a procedural lanauge pretending to be object oriented like delphi ) are spawns of C++ . But if you going the procedural route I think pascal is a good start....Atleast thats what I think on the matter at hand :-D

It all depends on what kind of programs you want to program, and what OS you want to program for (if were talking software). What kind of programs you looking to code?

And Welcome to CodeCall!
My Personal Blog l Learning C++ l I'll be famous soon enough.

First, languages you should not learn first:
  • Java
  • Any BASIC derivitive
  • Any of Microsoft's Visual <whatever>

This is a very interesting article. C isn't a hard language to learn, assuming you have good learning material. I've started with it and things have been going smoothly.

I think the best language to learn programming in a first time is C++.

Java is a great language, but should not be learned as a first language, because it simplifies things too much. PHP is the worst language to be learned as a first language. I believe C(C++) is the best language to learn, it will give you all the basics you need to know about the computer.
